Rabbi on the Pope in Jerusalem

Rabbi Abraham Skorka, rector of the Rabbinical Seminary of Buenos Aires, spoke to ZENIT, the Catholic news agency, on Pope Francis’ upcoming trip to the Holy Land.

Skorka is a personal friend of the Pope and the two had worked together to build relations between Jews and Catholics in Argentina. The two had also written a book together.

Rabbi Skorka said in the interview: “I don’t expect [Pope] Francis to wave a magic wand and bring together Jews and Palestinians. But, his charisma and his great humility can give a powerful message of peace for the whole Middle East,” he said. “It is a strategic region for world harmony, as taught to us by the prophets of the Bible, from Isaiah to Micah.”
