Pray for the Pope’s pilgrimage: Nine days of prayer in Jerusalem

As the pilgrimage of Pope Francis approaches, a prayer initiative proposes nine days of preparation before the Pope’s arrival.

From 14 to 22 May 2014, the Jerusalem Christian Churches and communities will prepare for and support spiritually the pilgrimage and encounter of Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew in the Holy City on 25 and 26 May 2014 with nine days of prayer This meeting occurs fifty years after the historical encounter of Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras in Jerusalem, which marked a new and positive beginning in the relationship between the Orthodox and the Catholic Churches.

The nine preparatory days consist of individual and community prayer in the Holy sites, fasting, worshipping and good deeds. Community prayer will be held in turn by the different Churches of the Holy City, with all other Christian communities being invited to join.
