Work Committees for the Pope's Visit

In the Holy Land has begun preparation for the Pope’s pilgrimage Francisco scheduled for May.

Pope: “I would like to announce that from 24 to 26, God willing, I will make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land The main purpose [my visit] will be to commemorate the historic meeting between Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras.”.

A hop, only three days. On the Agenda: Jordan, Jerusalem and Bethlehem. To help prepare for the visit, several committees have been established, each with a specific mission. Among the key points, the celebrations that take place during the trip. The celebration will be the most anticipated meeting between Pope Francisco and Bartholomew I, on the fiftieth anniversary of the meeting between Pope Paul VI and Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras of Constantinople.

The liturgy will be held at the Holy Sepulchre in front of the empty tomb of the risen Christ and be a meeting in which the Pope and the Ecumenical Patriarch probably embrace commemorating the fiftieth anniversary. But it also will be an ecumenical service, as the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, and local patriarchs will attend the celebration. Christian Copts, Syrians and Ethiopians held together in the Holy Sepulchre. All these churches participate so that the liturgy is prepared by all and for all.

In the town of Bethlehem in Manger Square, the Mass will be celebrated by Arab Christians and Christians of various rites of Hebrew language, who live in the Holy Land. “It will be Christmas mass,” explains Stéphane Father.

As you know, in the Holy Land can celebrate the Mass of the day that commemorates that particular location. The Pope thus celebrate Christmas with all the churches in the Holy Land. The Latin liturgy will be present, but also be a place for all the various rites of the Holy Land.

Another committee that was created was to Communications.

The committee’s work is divided into three parts: a data part which is needed to prepare the necessary infrastructure media so that they can share this beautiful moment. In other words, television and radio. So journalists can access and follow the Pope, wherever you are. This is the technical and logistics of the visit. Also preparing for journalists who are non-believers, so that they too can understand what happens during the Pope’s visit. And in order to accomplish this, we need to provide informative content. We want to launch a website, and we want to accompany journalists and help them understand what is happening during the visit and deeper later. These are the three main objectives of the committees.

There are many initiatives to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the meeting between Pope Paul VI and Athenagoras. Terrasanta Magazine, available in five languages, has a special edition of the historic meeting.

To sensitize pilgrims, is preparing an exhibition at the Christian Information Centre in Jerusalem and a large sign was placed in each shrine that was been visited by Pope Paul VI.

So begins the preparation that will help build the future through the commemoration of a historic meeting.
